Pear Sweet Potato Recipe

I love how simple and comforting this Pear Sweet Potato recipe is. The natural sweetness from the pears blends perfectly with the creamy texture of roasted sweet potatoes. It's a cozy side dish I turn to when I want something warm, nourishing, and a little unexpected. Whether I’m serving it with roasted chicken or enjoying it on its own, this dish always brings a touch of autumn to my plate.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes peeled and sliced
  • 2 ripe pears cored and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Equipment

  • Cutting board
  • Chef’s knife
  • Vegetable peeler
  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking dish
  • Aluminum foil
  • Oven

Method

Preheat the Oven
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare the Sweet Potatoes and Pears
  1. Peel the sweet potatoes and slice them into ¼-inch thick rounds. Core the pears and slice them into similar thickness. Uniform slices ensure even cooking.
Combine Ingredients
  1. In a mixing bowl, toss the sweet potato and pear slices with olive oil, honey, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
Arrange in Baking Dish
  1. Layer the sweet potato and pear slices alternately in a baking dish, creating a visually appealing pattern.
Cover and Bake
  1. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to retain moisture. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
Uncover and Continue Baking
  1. After 20 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are tender and the edges are slightly caramelized.
Garnish and Serve
  1. Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

Ensure pears are ripe but firm to maintain their shape during baking. Overripe pears may become too soft.
